Kula is partnering with GTD Water to develop water infrastructure opportunities, leveraging blockchain-based governance to ensure transparency and sustainable impact. Kula holds a 40% equity stake in this RegionalDAO and is working closely with local leadership to implement governance protocols that drive equitable access, economic viability, and long-term water security.

Project Overview

Water scarcity has long been a challenge in Ukwimi, Petauke, limiting opportunities for agricultural growth and local development. In 2023, through a broader commitment to water security, we deepened our engagement with the region - an initiative that strengthened relationships with local authorities, tribal leadership, and the community itself.

Building on the goodwill generated through previous projects, we worked with WATAI to leverage advanced water identification technology, leading to the successful mapping of three viable borehole sites. These water sources provide a crucial supply for both agricultural off-take and household use, directly supporting local economic activity and improving resilience in a water-stressed region.

Following the launch of the $KULA token, capital raised will go towards partnering with local leadership to drill and open these identified water sources. This effort will ensure sustainable access to clean water for villagers living near the boreholes and support agricultural initiatives that drive local economic growth. The first well in Ukwimi has already demonstrated the transformative potential of water availability. Small-scale farmers have begun cultivating vegetables for local sale, a significant shift for the community. Previously, simple produce had to be imported from the nearest town several hours away. Now, there is greater food security, improved nutrition, and the beginnings of a more self-sustaining local economy.

The impact of this initiative extends beyond infrastructure. It is about enabling long-term economic viability, fostering self-reliance, and ensuring that access to water becomes a foundation for sustainable growth. This is the kind of real-world application where blockchain-backed governance can create meaningful, measurable change.
